Carmines has good food but there servings are inconsistent. Several times I've ordered a cuban sandwich and have got shorted. They cut them by eye instead of measuring them and yesterday I got one that was cut way too short. It was haft of a half sandwich and your suppose to get a half.
I complained but no one cared about it. I feel bad that I didn't leave a tip for the waitress but I was angry.
My wife and I have been going to Carmines since 1972 buy yesterday will be the last time I'll go there. They were very uncaring and I don't have to put up with that.
My family and I (12 in all) celebrated my birthday here 8/6/11. The food was outstanding and the service terrific. Our waiter, Joe, took all orders without writing anything down and all orders came perfectly. not easy with picky eaters and children. Prices were reasonable and portions large. We had cuban food, burgers, pastas, and steaks. The fried green tomatoes had us going back for more. Casual atmosphere and panels provided some privacy. Very enjoyable.
Walked in by myself looking for some food, Cuban food to be more specific. Since their sign said hispanic, I assumed that they had Cuban food. All I could find is one dish, Cuban Roast Pork, said underneath it, "Best Cuban Pork in Tampa", thats where the joke started. All you get with that order is a plate of sliced pork soaked in vinegar. If it wasn't for the vinegar juice on the plate, the pork would have been really dry. I ordered the black beans and rice as my side, this was a bowl of unseasoned yellow rice with a can of unseasoned black beans on top. Absolutely no flavor. If someone from Carmines reads this, here is my advice, learn how to make mojo sauce and use it on the pork, I can send you a recipe if you want. Season the rice with something and add some peas, onions or something. Add onions to the black beans and some sofrtio spice. Unfortunatley, I won't be back to see if you make the changes. Maybe the tourist don't know any better, but locals do.
